It is our pleasure today to introduce Tamara Ojeda, who very recently completed her "Postgraduate Degree in Online Marketing and Digital Strategy":http://www.eae.es/masters-y-posgrados and, since then, she has certainly not been wasting her time! Today she is presenting the new project that she has founded, Planeta LowCost, a website that gives advice and recommendations to Spanish expatriates. This initiative is a logical response to the country’s current situation, with over 2 million people having left Spain between 2008 and 2013, of which 262,081 were Spanish nationals. Let’s get to know her and the project better!
HOW DID THE IDEA FOR THE PROJECT COME ABOUT?
Planeta LowCost started life in a bar with three friends sharing ideas, keen to get started on this entrepreneurial adventure (which some other people may call madness). The other two founders of the project, Arancha Bustillo and Marta Juste, had already published a book (‘Vivir Low Cost’) and write a blog for the newspaper Expansión (‘Vida Low Cost’), so they were already well-versed on the topic of living well while spending wisely. The focus on expatriates/emigrants arose when we realized that there used to be a group of 15 of us that got together at weekends, and only 6 of us were still here. Everyone else had had to move abroad in search of new opportunities. Having brought these two concepts together, and thanks to the ups and downs that our friends told us about, we realized that we wanted to help these people settle more easily into these new cities and countries.
WHO ENCOURAGED YOU TO START THE PROJECT AND EMBARK ON THIS NEW PROFESSIONAL STAGE?
We are surrounded by entrepreneurs, friends and family who have dared to take the entrepreneurial leap. Not only have they supported and helped us a great deal but, just by seeing how they operate, we caught the bug and wanted to try it for ourselves. We also are lucky to have the support of Manuel Balsera as a mentor for Planeta LowCost, who has also added his contribution to make sure that we don’t rest on our laurels and we keep moving forward.
HOW DO YOU SEE THE FUTURE OF PLANETA LOWCOST?
What I imagine, and what I am fighting for, is a website that covers the majority of the world’s main cities, with a great level of interaction between users, creating a community in which we help each other mutually so that everything runs smoothly, both in terms of those who are moving abroad and for us, being able to give useful, correct information. And for it to be profitable, of course!
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO TAKE THE POSTGRADUATE DEGREE IN ONLINE MARKETING AND DIGITAL STRATEGY?
Well, for much the same reason that I decided to become an entrepreneur. I am an unemployed journalist with years of experience in communication. My last job was at MarketingDirecto.com, where I started to learn a bit more about marketing. When I became unemployed, I thought that I should expand my training and get more deeply involved in this world where constant change is the norm, which has guided every step we take with the website, without us even realizing it!
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO TAKE THE COURSE AT EAE BUSINESS SCHOOL?
After researching lots of business schools and universities, the deciding factor for choosing EAE was that it was a presential course (most of the courses were online or only semi-presential) and because it had greater variety in terms of teachers compared to other institutions. Another key factor was the price, which was more suited to what I could afford.
WHAT ASPECTS OF YOU EXPERIENCE AT THE BUSINESS SCHOOL WOULD YOU HIGHLIGHT?
My knowledge of online marketing. I practically started from scratch and it was all completely new to me. Not only did the course broadening my training but also enabled me to put it into practice in Planeta LowCost. Apart from this, another of my highlights was the group of friends that I made there, my classmates and some of the teachers. Sometimes they were really great fun, as well as informative, of course.
All of us at EAE wish them all the luck in the world with their project and professional future, which is bound to be full of great successes.
A few days ago, Tamara and her partners at Planeta LowCost were also interviewed by the newspaper El País in the Finance section. Click "here":http://economia.elpais.com/economia/2014/04/21/actualidad/1398071440_804... to read the article.
