EAE Business School (www.eae.es) is giving its students access to new Minors short programs focusing on a specific area of knowledge that may or may not be related to the field of the Master they are taking. The new Minors focus on the latest trends in digital transformation in the financial sector to adapt to the challenges facing the industry: Fintech, Insurtech & Cryptocurrencies; Digital and Internet Entrepreneurship; Smart Cities; Agile Project Management and Data Science & Machine Learning.
In the Anglo-Saxon educational model, Minors or specialization programs are concentrated sets of courses focusing on the same field of knowledge that, all together, create a secondary learning program that is sometimes unconnected to the Master or, in other words, the main area of knowledge. EAE Business School has been a pioneer in the implementation of this model in Spain.
The range of Minors on offer at the School is the result of a comparative study of the optional courses available at a number of North American universities, the demands of the sector and EAE Business School's experience in terms of the requests from students in the latest editions.
MINOR PROGRAMS 2018
On the Minor in Fintech, Insurtech & Cryptocurrencies, student will begin by gaining an insight into the origin and evolution of cryptocurrencies and blockchain, as well as digital momentum, and opportunities and needs in the financial sector. Blockchain is a revolutionary technology that enables secure transactions to be performed on public or private networks, without intermediaries, using systems based on cryptography that ensure its reliability. Fintech refers to the present and future technology in the field, set to be the next industrial revolution, through which industries are expected to create or redefine their business models based on Blockchain projects.
The Digital Entrepreneurship and Internet course explains the current techniques that enable digitization in the different sectors (e.g., banking fintech, industry industry 4.0), and the techniques that enable the use of the Internet for the benefit of the company (e-commerce, SaaS, social media, among others). Students will analyse cases in which companies have opted for certain digitization models and market opening strategies through the use of the Internet, successfully positioning themselves in a competitive and globalized market. In teams, they will analyse the situation of companies operating in emerging sectors to gain an insight into how these companies have tackled the challenges of adapting to an increasingly digitized environment.
Meanwhile, in view of the trend towards global urbanization, it is predicated that, in 2030, more than 70% of the world population will aim to live in large cities due to the greater number of opportunities. This reality means that large cities have to ensure that their infrastructures and services are ready to guarantee the quality of life of the citizens and also to embrace the growth in competition between cities to achieve the best opportunities, both in terms of quality of life and reputation.
Within this context, EAE's Minor in Smart Cities offers the knowledge required to develop the most effective strategy to promote innovation in cities, such as the use of technologies as a key partner for adapting service: sensorization, data collection and processing systems, investment in renewable energies, more sustainable and efficient public transport, improvement in resources, etc. In addition, the participants have to develop a Smart City strategy based on design thinking tools. This Minor prepares participants to design the future of cities, working in city councils and large companies.
The Minor in Agile Project Management in an immersion program in the Agile methodology for fast and flexible adaptation in dynamic environments, with a large innovation component, so that changes are not seen as a threat but rather as an opportunity for development and learning. Agile methodologies are now a reality and a requirement in the modern business community, and Project Managers in the 21st Century need to have a command of them in order to remain competitive. An increasing number of projects require an agile approach to management, as the predictive or waterfall framework is no longer applicable.
Lastly, in the Minor in Data Science and Machine Learning, participants are introduced to the principles of exploiting large quantities of data and information that are generated and stored year after year. Participants will discover the history of Machine Learning from its origins right through to how we can take advantage of technologies of distributed Big Data systems to apply modern algorithms. In addition, they will gain an insight in advance data viewing and analysis techniques.
These minors join the range of specialization programs already on offer, which focus on different fields of business knowledge such as E-commerce, Neuromarketing, Fashion and Luxury, Big Data & Analytics, Design Thinking, Marketing and Administration in Non-Profit Companies, and Sustainable Environmental Management, among others.
Moreover, in this new academic year, four new Master programs have been introduced at EAE Business School: Master in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, 70 ECTS credits; the Master in Supply Chain Management & Logistics (70 credits, in English) at the Barcelona and Madrid campuses; and Master in Leadership and Coaching (70 credits), at the Madrid campus for junior profiles. At the Barcelona campus, the School has also introduced the Bachelor Degree in Marketing and Digital Communication.
