The Barcelona Campus of EAE Business School was the venue for the latest session of EAE Entrepreneur Experience entitled "The Entrepreneur's Attitude to Challenges. Managing them Positively". Chaired by the Director of the Master in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Lluis Soldevila, the session focused on tackling the challenges of the market.
Ignasi Tribó, the COO of My Poppins, explained a number of strategies for that you do not fail when faced with the different situations to which you are exposed over the course of your career in order to drive your project forward and become a great businessperson. Ignasi Tribó fell into the world of entrepreneurship by coincidence. "Unlike other people who have it in their blood, after completing my MBA, I was involved with various projects and I got really into one of them which wouldn't bear fruit until a few years later, so we applied for a loan and I acted as guarantor".
Tribó is now part of My Poppins, a marketplace that brings users and cleaning staff together. It has been up and running for two years now and it has undergone significant growth. As well as Barcelona and Madrid, they have also launched the service in Mexico City. He mentioned that the website had competition in Spain or, in other words, there were companies that already existed in the field, but "we improved on them and focused on large cities".
The advice given to the students by the entrepreneur included the fact that we learn more from our mistakes than from our victories. He went on to emphasize that your family setting is very important "because you need their support and for them to share your project". With respect to the point at which someone decides to focus exclusively on their business, he said that "it depends on each person. There are no good or bad decisions, there are decisions that let you sleep". He also added that investors usually require entrepreneurs work exclusively on their business idea.
Barcelona is a hub for companies, investors and entrepreneurs, which combine perfectly. In this respect, in his opinion, the city is a good place to raise money and find people to invest in a project in a project. "It is relatively easy to raise up to half a million euros". However, every investor has their market niche and that may be a handicap.
In his business, he acknowledges that they have invested a lot in technology. "It is a matter of capitalizing on technology in order to reinvent the consumers' trust. If it weren't for technology, our business wouldn't be possible". He went on to advise students that it is essential to ask yourself where the market is for each project, and always believe in the team. When asked where to invest right now, he concluded that it is a good idea to invest in traditional business and apply Fintech "because it is going to keep becoming more and more important".
