Following the presentation given by this year's keynote speaker, Jonas Kjellberg, and straight after the coffee break, the attendees of the EAE Alumni Reunion had the chance to enjoy the EAE Talks, short presentations by directors of leading companies related to technology and research. With a diverse variety of profiles, the six speakers analysed different feature of the modern business world and its most technological aspect.
The Six EAE Talks
Luis Montero, the Director of Data Solutions, IoT & AI at Microsoft, got the second part of the EAE Alumni Reunion 2018 started with a talk entitled "Smart Organizations driven by AI'. Luis Montero emphasized the capacity of artificial intelligence for doing everyday tasks more effectively and also for being integrated in companies' services. "AI will enable us to be more sustainable, he explained. "The true value of technology is not defined by what it can do, but rather by what we can do with it".
Victor Momparler, the Digital Manager of Just Eat Spain, analysed the growing market in his talk entitled "The Home-Delivery Food Revolution". During his explanation, he described concepts such as the blue ocean strategy and the importance of reinventing yourself in the home-delivery food sector with the emergence of new players.
A more scientific reflection was the focus of the talk by María A. Blasco, the Director of the CNIO (National Centre of Oncological Research), entitled "Moving towards the End of Diseases". The Doctor of biochemistry explained to the attendees the need to establish a paradigm shift in relation to diseases, "and understand the origin of cell ageing from the perspective of people getting older". In addition, she gave attendees an insight into a research project into telomeres and their reductive potential for slowing down ageing, because "life does not have an expiry date".
The changing needs of users and the evolution of the financial system were the focus of the talk entitled "Discovering the World of Fintech', given by Aitor Chinchetru, the founder and COO of Fintonic.
"Machines and People: Destined to Coexist" was the title of the talk by Miguel Ángel Turrado, the General Director of HP SCDS and Chief of Staff at HP Iberia. The technology expert shared his insightful analysis of the fourth industrial revolution, the relationship between mankind and machines, and the transformations of the employment world in a VUCA environment.
Attendees were then treated to a melody by Tchaikovsky played by the cellist Ana Laura Iglesias, the Director of Communication at Clásica FM Radio, which led into the last of the EAE Talks, entitled "Classical Music: what if we told it in a different way?". A different approach to communicating classical music as a radio station that enables its audience to give their opinion, listen and choose. The cellist concluded her talk by inviting the attendees to "discover the best music in the world because it is the universe of emotions that we have been waiting for".
EAE Alumni, enthusiastic and keen to learn
The EAE Alumni Reunion 2018 has strengthened the bond between the attendees, who were all pleased to take part in an event described by José Luis López, a member of the Dean's List 2017, as "a rewarding experience". Although this is the first time he has attended such an event, José Luis emphasized the importance of updating our knowledge. It was also the first time at the Alumni Reunion for María Fernández, a student on EAE's Master in Corporate Communication. In her opinion, "finding out about other experiences of people in different sectors is really interesting". Alejandro González, María's classmate on the Master in Corporate Communication, emphasized the standard of the talks and how rewarding they were at both a personal and professional level.
Luis Ruiz highlighted how the MBA has changed how he sees and understands the world beyond business. "It has opened my mind radically. Now I see things from really different perspectives". Moreover, Luis Ruiz added that he now has a greater insight into the people he works with, "both those that report to him and those above him".
The bond between EAE Alumni and networking opportunities were features highly valued by the attendees. "There is a relationship that has been created thanks to the Master", explained Alejandro González. One of the speakers at the EAE Talks and former student at EAE, Victor Momparler emphasized the close bond between the School and companies, as well as the importance of the link between the academic and professional aspects. José Luis López underlined the fact that "part of EAE's success is managing to maintain this community, this common bond for the future".
