Organized by the APD (Association for Management Progress), EAE and Bankia, the session was held in the auditorium of the Madrid-based bank in the city's Plaza Castilla.
Presented by Loreto Sanmartín, the APD's Director of the Central Region, María Pizzuto, EAE's Employability Partner, and Carlos Hernández, the Director of People Strategy and Policies at Bankia, the 2nd conference on trends in company training and development aimed to identify new business strategies for learning management.
During her presentation, Loreto Sanmartín set the focus of the topic of the session within the framework of a time of changes in the employee experience, the use of technology and new protocols for people management. In her opinion, "teams need continuous training in a world in a continual state of innovation and immediacy in which knowledge has become a constant".
Carlos Hernández, the Director of People Strategy and Policies at Bankia, emphasized the time of disruptive changes in a VUCA environment and mentioned the world of the future in terms of trends in work, including concepts such as creativity, originality, initiative and the capacity to learn by oneself (active learning and learning strategies). Against this backdrop, he added that "director have to be more open and participative, generating concepts that stimulate all these capacities".
María Pizzuto, EAE's Employability Partner, took charge of presenting the brilliant career of Sergio Jiménez, the CEO of Aiwin, who went on to share his knowledge on gamification and its successful application in human capital management. Gamification is "the use of gameplay and game philosophy in contexts not related to play, in order to motivate people and generate their commitment to our companies' objectives". Therefore, "if we motivate certain behaviours through gamification, we can create highly participative learning processes".
Sergio also explained that companies have begun to incorporate gamification and it is becoming a worldwide trend. He also discussed customer engagement and "improving our employees' performance, improving education and learning processes, innovation and personal development". The reality is that people are not committed to the missions of the companies they work for. Therefore, Sergio suggests incorporating elements of the world of gameplay into companies, which he described as "badly designed environments". To back up his argument, Sergio used real examples of Spanish organizations, before bringing bis presentation to a close by alluding to the scientific genius Albert Einstein: "you have to learn the rules of the game so that you can play better that anyone else".
Pilar Jericó, the Executive President and Partner at BE-UP, gave an interesting presentation on New Learning Systems. Pilar emphasized the speed of change brought about by digitization and robots, as well as the importance of training. The latest trends in training focus on creating learning ecosystems with the power to break down barriers, generate new personalized learning experiences, try to destroy subconscious bias to see further beyond and go back to basics through new conversations.
"In such a technological world, we have to go back to basics", explained Pilar, adding that "we have to work on our narratives, with the capacity to explain things and tell stories, because the greatest leaders are also great storytellers". In Pilar's opinion, it is essential to be curious and have time to focus on what is important because "leading is based on talking and we have to learn to hold new conversations". Pilar believes that leader have to set an example and ensure that they take care of people so that they have the energy to give you the best they have to give.
Debate on 'Innovative Experiences. Growing with Talent and People'
After the presentations, there was a discussion entitled 'Innovative Experiences. Growing with Talent and People'. Chaired by Arancha García, the Executive Career Advisor at EAE Business School, the panel included leading figures in the world of Human Resources such as Pablo Fernández, the Director of People Strategy at Bankia, Daniel Ferreiro, the L&D People Manager at Sanitas, and Francisco Puertas, Strategy Talent & Organization Director at Accenture.
Over the course of the session, they discussed topics including digitization, leadership and training to consolidate people's commitment to companies. Daniel Ferreiro revealed how Sanitas focuses its approach to digitization through "actively listening to the customer". Pablo Fernández highlighted aspects such as direct communication with people and training for executives. In Francisco Puertas's opinion, the internal learning management model at Accenture is essential. However, there is a long way to go in this respect as "organizations are still focused on their bosses and they need to be customer-oriented" added Daniel Ferreiro.
In an interconnected world with maximum access to information, the responsibility for training must be shared between the company and the employee. Updating our knowledge is essential, as far as Pablo Fernández is concerned. He emphasized the need for "companies to shift from being training prescribers to facilitators of our employees' learning ecosystems". Francisco Puertas added that we need to have "time to learn and be learning all the time". Daniel Ferreiro explained that "(leaders) have to inspire and impassion and, to do so, the first people we have to change are often ourselves", adding that "in a world saturated with information, contact with people is very important. We have to change habits and there is no magic formula for achieving that".
