Since the beginning of the 21st Century, Grupo Planeta has consolidated its position in new business areas to become one of the largest communication groups in Spain. It has over 170 brands and publishing houses in many different countries, covering all literary genres and employing more than 9,000 people.
A company undergoing significant growth constant needs to fill new positions. In fact, they have a large internship program for a number of different roles, "with 150 internships on offer each year", explained Beatrice Varca and Julie, the HR Directors of the Publishing company. There are currently internship positions available in certain departments, including business intelligence, digital marketing and offline marketing. To apply, the selection processes start with the publication of the offers, "which are on LinkedIn and the company's website".
Internships at Grupo Planeta usually run for six months or more on a part-time (09:00 to 14:00) or full-time (09:00 to 18:00) basis. They are paid internships and offer a significant expansion plan within the company. In addition, they often need people to work as a junior marketing technician on the staff.
Talent Week, contact between students and multinational companies
Thanks to EAE, Talent Week brings together more than 100 highly-respected companies looking for talent among the School's students to join them. Grupo Planeta conducted interviews with the students throughout the day that the company took part.
"So far, we have had various chats with different companies and, in my opinion, it is a fantastic opportunity to get to know companies of this calibre up close", explained Natalia Salazar, an MBA student who was preparing to take an interview with Planeta. "Although I am a civil engineer and my profile is not an obvious fit with the publishing company, I am open to new fields such as project management and finance".
Meanwhile, Martín, a student on the Master in Marketing and Commercial Management, explained that he would be really interested in doing an internship at Grupo Planeta "because it is a well-known company at an international level and I can gain an insight into the working environment in Spain, before applying it back in my country. Moreover, I would go home with some really great references". Martín had just left the interview with Planeta's HR team and it had gone well. "I was calm. They asked us some generic questions". He added that there are currently four internships available in marketing, but they will keep the candidates in mind for any future selection processes that the company opens.
Grupo Planeta was one of the companies that conducted these individual interviews or group exercises in some cases, after presenting the organization in a session in the style of a Company Meeting. Organized by the Professional Careers Department, EAE Business School's Talent Week promotes contact between the School's students and the leading companies on the market, facilitating the former's access to the professional market and the latter's search for the brightest young talent.
