On 26th February, the Madrid Campus of EAE Business School hosted the public presentation of the Study of Business Positions and Competences (EPyCE): Report on the Most Highly Demanded Positions and Competences 2014, which was presented by Juan Carlos Pérez Espinosa, Vice-Chairman of the Asociación Española de Directores de Recursos Humans (AEDRH - Spanish Association of Human Resources Directors), Chairman of the Comisión Técnica de Formación e Investigación (Technical Training and Research Commission) and Chairman of Grupo Facthum, as well as Raúl Bravo, the Director of EAE Business School Madrid.

According to the report drafted by AEDRH and EAE, the statistics related to the positions in the highest demand cover a total of 84 positions, with Account Manager ranking as the position with the highest average relative frequency (6.22%), followed by R&D Experts (4.61%), Salespeople for new markets (4.32%), Online/Digital Marketing Specialists (3.10%) and General Management positions (3.45%). The report highlights the fact that, when the focus is scaled down from the most highly demanded positions to the categories in the highest demand, a strong emphasis on positions in the commercial category can be observed (28.75%), followed by the categories of Marketing (15.89%), Technology (15.65%) and Engineering (12.63%).

In terms of the competences in the highest demand, the most commonly occurring result was Commitment with an average relative frequency of 9.25%. This competence was followed by Leadership (8.88%), competences related to linguistic abilities (7.92%), Change Management/Adaptability (7.36%) and Flexibility (7.19%).

The Report on the Most Highly Demanded Positions and Competences 2014 is the result of this research and the project is intended to continue in the future. After the presentation of this first edition, the team behind the project aims to create an annual document that sets out information about the positions and competences that are in the highest demand. This is designed to provide a tool that facilitates the decision-making process for all agents involved in the employment market, whether in a position of demand or supply, or involved in the intermediation or management of competences in relation to employment or education in the public or private sector.

During the event presentation, which was held on 26th February at the Madrid Campus of EAE Business School, Juan Carlos Pérez Espinosa highlighted the fact that this research is one of the most important studies that the Association plans to conduct annually.

The technical presentation of the Study was given by the lecturer José Luis Pérez Huertas, the head researcher, who stressed the fact that, through the Study of Business Positions and Competences, the real needs of Spanish companies will be identified with respect to the professional positions and competences in the highest demand now and in the future. He went on to explain the methodology and tools used to carry out the research.

The Research Team was made up of a group of research students on the Master in Human Resources Management at EAE Business School in Madrid, supervised by the Comisión Técnica de Formación e Investigación (Technical Training and Research Commission) of the AEDRH.
After the technical presentation, several participants made comments and enquiries related to the interest generated and the results presented.

To bring the event to a close, Juan Carlos Pérez Espinosa announced that, from this year onwards, two organizations will join the research project and contribute greater impact to the Observatory: CEOE and the Human Age Institute. The latter is a non-profit organization that strives to provide a platform for any professionals and organizations that wish to make a contribution to talent development. Sonsoles Escribano, one of the Directors of Institutional Relations at the Human Age Institute, gave a positive assessment of the presentation of the Study of Business Positions and Competences 2014 and expressed her excitement at joining the research project in 2015.

The AEDRH was created in 2012 and the organization has over 400 Members (data from 2014), all of whom are currently working as HR Directors in Spanish companies and multinationals operating in Spain. The Association’s mission is to promote and develop the executive role of Human Resources and to facilitate the exchange and dissemination of knowledge related to people management.

One of the Association’s specific objectives is to conduct research into issues of interest to the most senior Human Resources Directors, as well as to public institutions, companies, organizations and society in general. With this goal in mind, the Comisión Técnica de Formación e Investigación created the Observatorio Permanente de Posiciones Profesionales Multisectoriales Emergentes (Permanent Observatory of Emerging Multi-sector Professional Positions) to draft its key research, the Study of Business Positions and Competences.

Founded in 1958, EAE Business School has trained over 65,000 executives from 72 countries at its campuses in Barcelona and Madrid. It is currently ranked as the second most reputable business school in Spain (Merco Ranking 2014) and one of the 30 best business schools in the world (América Economía Ranking 2014).

EAE Business School’s commitment to research was consolidated in 2009 with the inauguration of the Strategic Research Centre, which focuses on market analysis and research for its strategic applications in companies and the field of business. The Centre also strives to contribute knowledge to key areas of business management.

In addition, EAE Business School has published its first scientific journal on management, called the Harvard Deusto Business Research (HDBR). This publication aims to provide the university and scientific community with a tool and a platform for disseminating the most important research into business management.
