Fernando Alonso is a student at EAE Business School. After completing a year of the MBA, he has been chosen as a finalist in the third edition of the Jumping Talent programme, the competition run by Universia in which the most promising students in the country are selected. Today, we have the opportunity to speak to him and get an idea of his first impressions.
WHAT RESPONSIBILITY COMES FROM BEING SELECTED FOR THE JUMPING TALENT PROGRAMME?
Being chosen as a finalist in the third edition of the Jumping Talent programme has certainly meant a great responsibility for me, as I am now representing my Business School (EAE) and my country (Peru). As such, at each stage of the challenge, I have done everything I can to give a good image and represent my country and School as well as I can.
WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION WHEN THEY TOLD YOU?
When they told me that I had been selected as a finalist, I was thrilled. At that moment, it felt like all of the efforts I had made over the course of the difficult selection process had been worth it, and that I had to maintain this level of effort and perseverance in the final event, in which I had to display my main personal strengths and professional competences.
WHICH COMPANY HAS SELECTED YOU OR WHAT TRAINING PROGRAMME HAVE YOU STARTED?
Based on my previous professional experience which has focused on banking, I wanted to be picked by either of the banking institution that was taking part in the programme (Santander and/or Bankinter). During the event, I was eventually picked by Bankinter, which I was thrilled about, as it was want I was really hoping for. I now work for the institution in the company banking department and I am extremely satisfied and happy about the opportunity that was given to me.
WHAT HAVE YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS BEEN?
My impression of Bankinter couldn’t be better. It is a company that shows great concern for the development and growth of its partners. Moreover, the company promotes teamwork and innovative proposals for improving internal processes, and they recognize and reward effort, etc. At Bankinter, there is an excellent working environment in which each partner’s opinion is valued and taken into consideration. The result of all of this is that all of Bankinter’s partners are motivated and driven to keep doing things in the best possible way.
WHAT IS YOUR LONG-TERM PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVE?
My long-term professional goal is to reach a general management level of a prestigious banking institution with a multinational presence and, based on this work, to promote entrepreneurship and professional development in my country. At the same time, I would also like to set up my own company. It has also been a dream of mine to create my own company and watch it grow year after year.
A STAGE OF YOUR ACADEMIC LIFE HAS BEEN AT EAE. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT?
Certainly, my experience at EAE marks a before and after point. In my opinion, I received excellent tuition from all of the academic faculty, which enabled me to apply all of the knowledge that I had acquired in my professional career, and expand my knowledge to a greater extent through case studies and projects. Moreover, the experience has been extremely rewarding and I will always treasure the fantastic memories of all of my classmates with whom I shared my classroom and who have now become great friends.
WHAT CONTRIBUTION HAS IT MADE TO YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE?
In my opinion, EAE makes great efforts, not only to gives its students good academic tuition, but also to enable its students to apply the knowledge acquired in the professional sphere. During my time studying at EAE, I was invited to a great number of events and presentations by companies looking for young talented professionals. One such event was the presentation of the Jumping Talent programme, which I decided to sign up for. They called me back and I went through the whole selection process. Two weeks after finishing the Jumping Talent programme, I was already heading to my first day working for Bankinter. I am extremely grateful to EAE for helping me to get my first international professional experience.
Thank you very much for the interview, Fernando. We wish you the best of luck for the future!
