Over the last few days, the Coaching and Emotional Intelligence Seminar was held at the Madrid Campus of EAE Business School in collaboration with CAF Madrid. We had the opportunity to speak to Merche Aranda Carmena, director of EAE Business School’s Master in Executive Development, Emotional Intelligence and Coaching, who took part in the seminar as a lecturer.
WHAT WERE THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE?
The main aim was to provide coaching and emotional intelligence tools to professionals in the property management sector.
HOW DO YOU DEVELOP A GOOD COACH?
They need preparation. We here at the School have really good training in coaching competences in accordance with the standards of the International Coach Federation (ICF). This is the global organization that ensures that all coaches have the skills required to perform the art of coaching.
TO WHAT EXTENT DO EMOTIONS AFFECT THE PROFESSIONAL SPHERE?
Human beings are emotional. As such, emotions affect us at a personal level, a professional level, etc. The better you know how to manage your emotions, the better you will handle any conflicts that may arise. It is fundamental.
WHAT CONTRIBUTION CAN EAE MAKE TO THE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT SECTOR?
Extremely solid tuition that is also very practical. The people that train here can really acquire tools for their everyday lives. They are practices that are immediately transferable to their professional careers.
IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT SKILLS MUST A DIRECTOR HAVE IN RELATION TO THEIR EMPLOYEES?
A good leader is consistent between what they say and what they do. They are people who have followers that are truly loyal, not because they are their boss but because of the values and skills that they have. In my opinion, this is the consistent approach that they must have with their teams.
WHAT DOES GOOD EMOTIONAL CONTROL INVOLVE?
We don’t talk about control but rather management. Good emotional management is a matter of you deciding how to respond in each situation at any given time. You are responsible for your management. This enables you to improve your professional skills at all levels: you become a better manager of yourself but also a better manager of other people. The main reason is that you do not react, but rather you respond.
